Western Canadian Music Award Submission Deadline: March 19

Are you a western Canadian artist or industry member? Submissions are now open for the Western Canadian Music Awards (both artistic and industry). Learn more about the Awards guidelines to see if you qualify, and be the first to get your application in.

Submissions can be made by the Artist/Industry professional themselves or they can be submitted on the Artist’s/Industry professional’s behalf. It is recommended that nominees, and those submitting, be a member of a Western Canadian Music Industry Association but is not required. The Nominee must have been born in either Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon or NWT and must have lived in one of those Provinces or Territories for six consecutive months in the past year (January 1, 2020 - March 19, 2021).

NEW INFO: Strong Recovery Adaptation Rebate (SRAR)

The Strong Recovery Adaptation Rebate is established to reimburse eligible small businesses in Saskatchewan for incremental expenses made to adapt their business models to operating during the COVID-19 pandemic. Financial assistance includes a payment of up to $5,000 for 50% of total eligible business-adaptation investments made by the applicant between April 1, 2020, and February 28, 2021. The minimum business expenditure that will be reimbursed is $300 (which would mean a $150 government contribution).

Business adaptation investments include incremental, one-time expenditures aimed at establishing physical barriers or reconfiguring space to operate safely, providing services through digital tools, providing new or different services or products, and shifting to delivery or curb-side services. Eligible expenditures are intended to contribute to the completion of an asset or project that is lasting and not transactional, for example, a website or renovation. Eligible expenses include website development or enhancements to support curbside pickup or delivery, initial costs for new software, costs of renovations and lasting equipment needed to operate safely like hand sanitation stations, or contactless payment. They do not include staff costs, personal protective equipment such as masks, hand sanitizer or cleaning products.

Applications will be accepted from December 22 to March 31, 2021.

Featured Career Tracks Mentor: Lenore Maier

Lenore Maier is a multi-instrumentalist; she plays drums and sings in Saskatoon surf pop band The Garrys where she has performed alongside notable acts such as The Sadies, Elliott Brood and La Luz. She also produces ambient electronic works as Ursa and has worked in the realms of film score composition and live theatre sound design. She is the co-founder of Grey Records, a small cassette label based in Saskatoon. She has toured across Canada and the UK and has booked several tours for her own bands and others on Grey Records. She is an organizer with Girls Rock Saskatoon and is the founder of FEMFEST! (2017-2019) and Festival Director of The Manitou Boogaloo (2018-present). She has juried several music festivals and has been a FACTOR juror since 2014. Lenore holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health at the University of Saskatchewan.

Lenore joins the Career Tracks program to provide consultation and assistance with questions including: grant applications, national and international showcasing, recording, touring, running a small record label, self-booking and self-management.
