SaskMusic Shawn

SaskMusic is pleased to announce the newest addition to our team!

Effective September 23, Shawn Karpinka will be joining us as Program and Administrative Assistant, based in the Saskatoon office. Shawn interviewed with SaskMusic for one of our prior job postings, and we felt he would be a great fit to bring on board.

Shawn is an active member of the Saskatchewan music scene with his group The Karpinka Brothers, who have toured from coast to coast in North America, including showcasing at Folk Alliance International in Kansas City, and multiple performances at the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival. They've achieved acclaimed press and chart success on campus and community radio across Canada and the U.S., releasing four studio albums over 10+ years, the most recent produced by Howard Bilerman (Leonard Cohen, Arcade Fire) at his legendary Hotel2Tango studio in Montréal. Shawn is often found at local shows, cheering on friends at the top of his lungs. He is passionate about helping musicians, and his advice has been featured in Canadian Musician magazine. He has also been an MC many times at the Gateway and Ness Creek music festivals. He has worked closely with some of the top publicists in the music industry, and he has always been thankful for the lessons that he learned from his first mentor, Derek Bachman at SaskMusic.

Call for artist news!

Please submit your news and albums for our magazine, The Session. Physical issues go to the music industry in Saskatchewan and nationally, and digital issues to the general public.

Artist and studio news are included in The Buzz column, and can include a photo and your main web address. Are you going into the studio? Got a big tour planned? Win an award, get selected for a showcase, add a new band member? Give us the scoop.

New album releases are also featured in The Session. We require a physical or digital copy of your entire album which will go into our music library following inclusion; a one-sheet or short write-up about the album (6-8 sentences), and list of credits, if they aren't on the packaging. Once this information is received we will put it in holding for the next issue of The Session. You may be selected for promotions on our social media, included in our year-end "Saskatchewan releases" list, etc.

Other news: Workshops that are music-centred or of interest to musicians or the music industry will also be included.
