SaskMusic and the SCMA present an
ARTIST & LABEL KEYNOTE
with JESS MOSKALUKE and MDM RECORDINGS

SaskMusic, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Country Music Association, is pleased the present the 2018 Saskatchewan Country Music Awards Weekend keynote interview with Jess Moskaluke. Jess, along with Mike Denney, head of MDM Recordings Inc. and Carmen Choney, tour manager, will be interviewed by SaskMusic’s Lorena Kelly. The event is part of a weekend’s worth of activities that form the annual country music celebration, taking place this year in Prince Albert SK.

In this intimate and educational keynote interview, we will discuss the path Jess has taken on her way to the top of the Canadian country music industry; staying true to one’s artistic vision; building an artist’s support team; marketing strategies; songwriting; and industry trends, among other topics of interest to both artists and fans of country music.

Saturday, April 28/2018, 1-2pm
Marquis Room, Prince Albert Inn (3680 2nd Avenue West, Prince Albert SK)
Admission: Free
For those who cannot join us in person, please see SaskMusic socials (Facebook and Twitter) for a live stream of this event.

An internationally celebrated artist, Jess Moskaluke (MDM Recordings Inc./Universal Music Canada) continues to dazzle the country music world with her infectious love of the genre. Acclaimed as the first Canadian female country artist to have a song in the Top 5 since 2008 (“Drive Me Away”), and the first female Canadian country artist since [her childhood idol] Shania Twain to achieve Platinum single status (“Cheap Wine and Cigarettes”), she has achieved three Top 10 hits with “Kiss Me Quiet”, “Take Me Home” and “Drive Me Away,” and recently went Gold with single “Kiss Me Quiet.” A four-time JUNO Award nominee (including receiving the 2017 JUNO for Country Album of the Year), and 2017 SOCAN Award winner, Moskaluke is also the three-time consecutive CCMA Award winner for Female Artist of the Year (2014, 2015, 2016) - the first resident of Saskatchewan in the history of the awards to achieve this title.

A proud small town girl, when she first posted her music online, no one could have anticipated the bright future that lay ahead.  Many years later with her growing fan base, she has over 32 million views on YouTube to date.  In 2016, Moskaluke had the #1 Most Played Song (“Take Me Home”) at Canadian Country Radio and was the top spun Canadian female artist for the second year in a row.

Music Modernization Act Introduced in (U.S.) Congress With Bipartisan Support: "the most important music copyright bill in a generation"

April 11's Billboard Bulletin provides a very positive update. “The Music Modernization Act reflects bipartisan and industry consensus that the music licensing system is broken and that Congress is in a unique position, with this bill, to take major steps to fix the policy undergirding that system,” Rep. Collins told Billboard through a spokesperson.

The bill represents an important step as various industry stakeholders realized that it was better to work together from one voice instead of lobbying against one another, and craft a larger bill that will (hopefully) receive Senate approval.
