Scenic Route to Alaska is a warm, inviting brother-like trio from Edmonton, Alberta. Trevor Mann, Shea Connor and Murray Wood are long time friends effortlessly mixing pop, indie and folk into their prairie indie sound.  Since 2010 and the drop of their first EP in 2011, this trio has travelled from Vancouver to Halifax and over seas, sharing their positive energy, catchy vocals and memorable melodies. Their music is a product of their own time, talent and lots of hard work. They released “Long Walk Home” this past September to great reviews about their amazing combination of vocals, instrumentals and well written lyrics.

Friday, June 23 Skavenjah

Ska originated in Jamaica, mixing Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. This is not a typical sound for the prairies however Skavenjah has found a means of perfecting it as one of North America’s premiere SKA groups. Passion is a big reason for the longevity of this band with a career spanning over 25 years. The band was always relentlessly touring, bringing out the diverse musical stylings of ska/punk, rock, reggae and soul. Not after an extensive hiatus, Skavenjah is back from retirement. A live Skavenjah show is something to behold, with the band coming out in their dress shirts and ties, throwing in some high energy and leaving soaked in sweat. The audience is left with the gift of a smile on their face after their performance.

Andino Suns

Taking the stage before Skavenjah are Andino Suns! It’s not very common one would find quality Latin music coming from Saskatchewan until one stumbles upon the amazing group known as Andino Suns. Formed in 2009, Andino Suns, from Regina, hasn’t stopped and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. This romantic, uplifting and danceable group has worked with many other hardworking Saskatchewan artists on their latest LP “Madera”, bringing some spice to our prairie sound. Let Andino Suns inspire you with their great harmonies and their use of traditional Chilean instruments. Make sure you bring your dancing shoes because it’s hard to resist the urge to get up and move.

Skavenjah Opening: Andino Suns Friday, June 23, 2017 Doors: 7:30pm  Music: 8:30pm $35

Saturday, June 24 Joel Plaskett Emergency

Take three guys and add a little music making mischief to create the sound that is The Joel Plaskett Emergency. Giving hope to other East-Coast musicians, multiple Juno winning song writer Joel Plaskett met up with Dave Marsh and Chris Pennell to form the “deliciously Canadian” band. Known for songs like “Nowhere with You”, “Through & Through & Through” and “Come On, Teacher” whether you realize it or not, you’ve been listening to Joel Plaskett. With a never-ending touring schedule, either solo or with The Emergency, Joel Plaskett captures the Canadian spirit. Coming all the way from Lunenberg, Nova Scotia, Plaskett has been part of the music industry for over 20 years. He has toured with bands such as the Tragically Hip and Sloan. He is comfortable playing a wide array of music genres, from rock, to blues, to pop.

Bombargo

Opening up the night will be Saskatoon based band, Bombargo. And get ready, as a common side effect of Bombargo is the desire to move and to shake. The four-piece band consists of Spencer Chilliak, Nathan Thoen, Phil Kashap and Graeme Tilsley. Formed in 2014 after another festival, Bombargo is driven by positivity in music and in life. They all bring in different various influences and sounds, trying their best not to stick to just one genre. Their funky, rock, indie sound is sure to hit your soul and make you groove. All four band members agree that they are best when experienced live, bringing raw energy and intensity to their performances.  It doesn’t take long to feel the energy and get yourself singing and dancing along.
