Description
Musicaction, a non-profit organization, was founded in August 1985 on the initiative of professionals in the radio and the recording and entertainment industry. For 30 years, the Foundation has encouraged the development of music by supporting the production and marketing of sound recordings as well as collective promotional activities. Musicaction's programs are designed to meet the needs of independent music production, within which the majority of albums by French-speaking artists are produced across the country. As a general rule, nearly 80% of its resources are devoted to French-speaking vocal music and 20% to other musical genres. Anglophone music projects are directed to FACTOR.
Since the creation of Canada Music Fundin 2002, Musicaction administered the Individual Initiatives (formerly New Musical Works) and Collective Initiatives components with an annual contribution of nearly $ 7 million from the Department of Canadian Heritage and $ 3.5 million from private broadcasters. Bell Media, Cogeco Media, RNC Media, Sirius XM and Stingray are among these.
Musicaction also administers the RadioStar Fund intended for the marketing of French-language vocal music albums in Canada. To find out more, click here .
In 2018, a CRTC decision made Musicaction the manager for four years of new amounts from private television groups in order to optimize the offer and promotion of Canadian musical content by the Music Video .
