After opening for Mo Kenney at last year’s Winterruption, a brand new Too Soon Monsoon experience awaits at Winterruption 2019. Too Soon Monsoon, a Saskatoon based alternative-pop act, is preparing to release a full-length album in the spring of 2019 and will perform the new album for the first time front-to-back in this special “album-preview” experience. TSM’s debut full-length: Waves: we provide what we absorb, we absorb what we provide was written between November 2017 and April 2018 and touches on universal topics like seeking purpose, change, interconnectedness, love and loss. Many of the sixteen tracks on the full-length were inspired by the South Saskatchewan River flowing through Saskatoon. Exploring the emotions and messages of the new album with stage design, painting, movement and lighting, this ‘album-preview’ performance will allow the audience to sit back and feel as if they’ve just dropped the needle on the not-yet released TSM record.
With nods to influences like The White Stripes, Fiona Apple, Metric and Fleetwood Mac, Too Soon Monsoon began performing as a duo near the end of 2016. Since then, Too Soon Monsoon (vocalist and keyboardist, Greg Torwalt and drummer Nathan Henry) released two EPs, toured Western Canada twice, performed at festivals including: Breakout West (2018), Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival (2018), Winterruption (2018), Ness Creek Music Festival (2017) and opened for the likes of PVRIS, Wide Mouth Mason, and Scenic Route to Alaska. In the summer of 2018, TSM began recording Waves: we provide what we absorb, we absorb what we provide with producer Adam Grant. TSM’s debut full-length album is made possible with the support of Creative Saskatchewan through the Sound Recording Grant Program. The first two songs from this album, “Ocean” and “Mountains of Blue” were released in the fall of 2018. Too Soon Monsoon, starting 2019 in a new form, will continue to create music with a message of appreciation for nature, art, yourself and one another.
