Taking its name from the cluster of galaxies containing the Milky Way, the Local Group – Jaxon Lalonde (banjo/bass), Elliot Dillabough (guitar), Ethan Peters (bass), and Justin Vilchez (mandolin) – plays music of astronomical proportions. With roots in rural Saskatchewan, the quartet puts a unique spin on traditional acoustic music, including bluegrass, Celtic, classic country, and Canadiana. Spotlighting hot banjo and guitar picking, tight harmonies, and a mixed bag of instruments including double bass, fiddle, harmonica, penny whistle, and triangle, the Local Group will take you out of this world on a rocket fuelled by pure folk music.
Songwriter Zachary Lucky is unapologetically old-school country, armed with a husky, baritone voice and often receives comparisons to songwriters such as Gordon Lightfoot and Kris Kristofferson. His songs of Canadian people and places conjure universal feelings that have passed through our collective timelines. Zachary’s opening set will include tunes from his extensive catalogue while featuring selection from his 2021 collection of traditional folk and country songs, Songs For Hard Times.
