Local favourite, Rosie & the Riveters never planned to get political. But opening a newspaper or watching the news these days made it impossible for the group to see the status of women around the world and stay silent. The result is Ms. Behave – a collection of gritty, sultry, folk-pop anthems that Billboard magazine calls “powerful and daring.” In 2018, the album remained in the top 10 US folk music charts for 17 weeks. The Riveters are back to perform all their hits, both old and new.
What most might call Americana, folk-rock, or country music, Toronto’s Melanie Brulée colours her own, bringing a vintage respect to a modern sound by intertwining surf-style guitar tones and catchy melody hooks. Her third album, Fires, Floods & Things We Leave Behind, was released in October 2018 and is on regular rotation on CBC and Sirius XM.
