The versatile members of Sun Zoom Sparx also lend the band the unique capability of playing to any crowd, at any venue, for any function, adapting it's music to suit a variety of corporate/arts events including the '2011 Mayor’s Arts & Business Awards', 'Saskatchewan Arts Alliance 2012 Arts Congress: Matters of Engagement' and City of Regina corporate functions. In 2012 SZS was asked to submit to Regina Symphony Orchestra's - 'Symphony Under The Sky' and performed at that annual event in Wascana Park.

The band originally formed under the name CoelacanthDance which was the name of the one person project composed, played - on guitar, bass, keyboards and drum programming, and recorded by Steve McDonnell at his home studio 'Crying Fish Studios', and released as an independent CD titled: 'Sonic Excursions and Audio Spasms' in 2007.

Shortly after the release of that CD the full band version of CoelacanthDance was (spawned) and although the band plays - and expands - on the original compositions on the CD, the music has evolved and morphed.

In July of 2011, due to ongoing pronunciation (and marketing!) issues with the original name the decision was made to re-brand as: 'Sun Zoom Sparx'
