Johnny Coull is an independent singer-songwriter from Montreal, Canada. His sophomore album Songs to Control the Weather By (EP) was released in the summer of 2015.

A seasoned pianist, Coull completed the McGill Conservatory classical piano program at a young age, and later obtained his Performer's ARCT from the Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music. He has composed music in a range of styles, including pop, blues, jazz and classical, and has performed extensively in and around Montreal.

In the fall of 2012, Coull received a provincial Jeunes Volontaires grant to write and record his first solo album, and subsequently organized successful crowdfunding and presales campaigns to finance the remainder of the project. City on the Hill was recorded at Montreal's legendary Studio Victor in June 2013. He completed a twelve-date cross-Canada tour in the spring of 2014 to promote the record.

Coull belongs to the vintage piano rock tradition, in the style of early 1970’s Elton John or Springsteen. On display are punchy melodies and poignant storytelling, punctuated with virtuosic piano riffs. Lyrically, dark settings are explored: the loss of our innocence, the instability of our love and of our dreams, and the frantic desperation that draws us on in a life that only sometimes delivers what it promises. Coull has been described as “a singer-songwriter and a first-rate storyteller with a sound somewhere between Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel […]”, and in live performance has been lauded as “a veteran pianist, […] skilled at showing off his virtuosity and his voice.”

After releasing Songs to Control the Weather by, Coull concluded a Canadian east coast tour in the fall of 2015. In the summer of 2016, he was awarded a songwriting grant from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec to assist with the composition and arrangement of a new twelve-song project. The album was recorded this past fall, with post-production currently underway with producer Terry Brown (Rush, Blue Rodeo) at the helm.

This second full-length album is set for release in January 2018, followed by a new Canada/US tour.
