The Blenders Music Series presents the Award Winning, Canadian Blues Rock Act, Kirby Sewell Band on Saturday, January 27th at the Lyric Theatre in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
Big boss man Kirby Sewell was born to sing. The Big Blues shouter who stands 6 ft 6, belts out his tunes like the great soul singers of the past.
Sewell commands the stage sharing nuances of his own life in unforgettable vocal performances, leaving audiences little doubt that the Blues has spent some time with him. Backed up by an incredible band with producer/guitarist Neil Gunhold, who has cooked up a genre bending sonic union, colored by the Rock, Country, Blues overtones of Morgan Turk (lead guitar), in sympatico with Jim Johnston (drums) and Jae Cho (bass) who dynamically underpin Sewell’s deeply textured, Soul filled, R&B/Rock voice.
The band catapulted Kirby’s voice to National nomination status in 2015 with two Maple Blues Award nominations, including Male Vocalist of the Year and winning the New Artist of the Year, taking home the trophy back to their native Calgary, Alberta.
It is this magic in their passionate live performances that has been their ticket to be invited to International stages across North America, like the San Jose Jazz Festival to the lakes of Toronto at Beaches International Jazz Festival, to regional music society concert series and festivals like the Salmon Arm Roots & Blues to name a few.
The Kirby Sewell Band is an electrifying Canadian Blues Rock experience. Reaching out with modern interpretations, the 5-piece band tells melodic heart pulling stories that come from the depths of an old soul, while breathing new musical life into a genre. Their arrangements are amped up, invigorating and play against the grain.
