Lavagoat - LavaGoat has long been a staple of the Saskatoon metal scene, bringing fans a unique blend of many heavy influences ranging from Doom to Death to Thrash. Now, coming into their 10 year anniversary year, LavaGoat shows no signs of slowing down. They released their 6th disc, "Ladies From Hades", in September of last year, a concept EP containing "...five hymns to wicked women [that] build a temple for the chosen to worship in.". Reveling in what is being hailed as their most doom-instilled release yet, LavaGoat has enjoyed cult acclaim throughout Canada, and beyond. Not many bands have a way of breathing new death into each album like LavaGoat does, making each album and EP a unique exploration of a different style or artistic edge. An example of this would be their 2014 live-in-their-jam-space disc Weird Menace; a single track containing 6 horror themed songs. These Doom filled Easter eggs are what keeps followers of LavaGoat thirsting for more. We are insanely excited to share this Saskatoon institution with you, and to share in the excitement of the 10th year running!

Scythra
Regina’s Scythra have only been representing Saskatchewan’s capital Regina since 2014, but in 3 years they have managed to become a band that is known for their vicious style, and powerful live performances. Slamming synchronized riffs become technically proficient odysseys, forever glued in place by the robotic booming of the drums. Scythra comes to us inspired by groups like The Oracle, and Cannibal Corpse; yet they are treading a path wholly their own, and are seemingly on the cusp of further success and acclaim.
Wasting no time, Scythra released their debut EP ‘Chaotic Eradication’ (2014) during their first year together. It was incredibly well received by the local metal beat, and quickly jumped to Saskatoon where they have enjoyed playing on a few occasions. Their anticipated follow up ‘Human Cesspool’ (2017), which was welcomed into eager ears just this past March, has not only snagged the attention of Saskatoon Screamfest; but the local metal community, and shows much promise for the coming year. 2017 will be the first year that Scythra joins the Saskatoon Screamfest roster.
Check out Scythra’s shiny new album ‘Human Cesspool’, but if you like it as much as we do, make sure you pickup a copy for yourself!

ChronoBot
ChronoBot, is a well-known Saskatchewan band, who display incredible ingenuity in their craft. Their style and inspiration are epitomized best in their own words: “The Chronbot is a 40-ft tall, dope-smoking, time-travelling robot from beyond this universe. This band pays tribute to this cosmic entity, binding fuzz, riff, and reefer to create our own brand of spaced-out doom“. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Although they now hail from all over Saskatchewan, this doesn’t keep this dedicated bunch from continuing to bring music to the ears of this dimension, and others. They have spent the last while gigging and recording in preparation for the release of their new album; and still have found the time to take part in a local SPCA merch swap/fundraiser, and show off their music at the 420 Music and Arts Festival in Calgary.
ChronoBot currently has two split LPs available (with bands Hemptress, and Algoma). Just at the beginning of this year, because of high demand from fans, they compiled all their tracks from the splits into a full-length album called “Spliffs ‘N Splits”. Physical quantities of “Spliffs ‘N Splits” are limited, so don’t sleep on getting yours! Chronobot will be playing night #1 of Saskatoon Screamfest III at Vangeli’s Tavern, alongside other great Saskatchewan metal artists. If you share their appreciation of the leaf, then you’ll definitely love their merch designs, and their special strain of cosmic doom. If you are into such things, consider partaking before having a listen to the entire “Spliffs ‘N Splits” album like we know you will.

Thalass
What can we say about Thalass. These are a group of guys that require no introduction, as they've already blasted themselves face first right through the Saskatchewan Death Metal scene. Known for their deep moody guitars, and powerful guttural vocals; Thalass had a standout first year, opening for bands like Obey the Brave, Deez Nuts, Intervals, Ninjaspy and more! Known for their ability to bring in loyal followers to any time slot, Thalass has already proven themselves a go to band for their genre. After proving themselves locally in such a big way, they were an obvious choice for Saskatoon Screamfest III.
Thalass doesn't have a disc cut yet, but they have made incredible progress in their recordings; releasing their first studio quality track, "King of Nothing" just months after launching their social media. Over the months after they followed up that release with 2 more exciting tracks that show off their power and range, "Throat Kick" and "The Noose". All three of these rippin' tracks are available on their Bandcamp, linked below. You can catch Thalass before Saskatoon Screamfest at the next Faceless Productions - which will be held on October 3rd at Vangeli's Tavern.
This is Thalass' first Saskatoon Screamfest, but in all fairness, they haven't been around long enough to have a crack at the last couple. If you haven't seen the raw energy of this band, then don't miss out at Saskatoon Screamfest III (NIGHT #1) at Vangeli's, where Thalass will play alongside some of the best death, doom and groove metal bands that Saskatchewan has to offer. Weekend passes for the mini-fest are now available from Louis', Vangeli's and Mainstage Urban Clothing, and are just $25. You can also get night passes from each of the respective venues. For now, buff up on Thalass' tracks so you can throw down with style on October 27th.
