March is music month at the Creative City Centre with a star studded line up and an incredible chance to let go and go in. Celebrate Brent Nielsen's solo album release with a rich evening of foot tapping and hip swaying songs that will make you believe in love, and maybe even yourself, a little bit more.
BRENT NIELSEN
He conjures up ghosts from a rich musical past.
“It was a Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee record that pulled me back there … at 12 years old I was too weak to resist.”
Brent Nielsen is an acoustic roots musician from Regina, Saskatchewan. He has a beat up old Martin guitar that sounds like heaven and looks like hell.
“I had no idea where that record would take me”, he says “I was the opening act for John Lee Hooker just 12 years later”.
He’s been a student of country blues for as long as he can remember. Like his guitar, Nielsen’s music has been lived in.
For the last 5 years he’s been one half of the Regina based duo The Stillhouse Poets. Rest assured his solo album isn’t a harbinger for the duo’s breakup. The Poets are still a thing and have been working on their 3rd album. In fact, Kirk Hextall (the other poet) will make a cameo appearance at the release to sing a couple of new Stillhouse Poets songs.
As well, Kara Golemba will treat us to some “acoustic soul”. She can summon the power and the fury of a Baptist preacher when she wants to. Kara will be driving in from Indian Head to make her guest appearance.

Hamilton resident, Jille Shotton, was making her way across Canada a few years ago to attend various bluegrass festivals, but after attending a music festival in northern Saskatchewan her journey came to an end. She fell in love with the music community in Saskatoon, and very shortly after, she fell in love with her now husband, and musical partner, Ryan Shotton - a performing musician in SK bands Grain Report and Kory Istace vs The Time Pirates.
It wasn't long until they realized they had more in common than music.
After Jille Proposed to Ryan on stage, they recorded their first self-titled album, then got married, recorded 3 music videos and played at 12 music festivals this last summer! Some of these festivals include The Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Time Music Festival, All Folked up, Ness Creek, Jazz Fest and Napatak Ramble in La Ronge, SK.
Join Rugged Little Thing at the Creative City Centre on March 18th for an evening of bluegrass, old time and catchy originals!
