A poetry slam is a dialogue between audience and performer. It is a competitive event wherein spoken word artists share their work in a high-spirited, fast-paced environment to an often uproarious crowd.

Slammers should come prepared with three original pieces of less than 3 minutes and 10 seconds each. No props, no nudity, no hate speech. Sign-up starts at the door at 7:30, with a maximum of 12 competing poets -- first come, first served!

Five judges will be chosen at random from the audience. Each judge will provide a score between 1-10 for each poem, of the five scores, the high and low will be dropped leaving a total score out of 30.

Audience members, come prepared with snapping fingers and a good pair of lungs.

FEATURE ARTISTS:

ERIN COTTON'S poetry is a handwritten love letter filled with dirty jokes and queer politics. Previously she has performed in Cabaret Outre, the Big Gay Cabaret and Victoria Pride in the Word. She is a two time Victoria Slam champion and has competed at multiple national festivals. She has one too many poems about genitalia and is secretly a bit proud of it. Super queer and super weird, she'll bring all the absurdist sexual politics you can handle. She is touring in spring of 2017 with “Calling it Queer,” a show focused on acts of queer naming.

Regina Word Up is grateful for the support of our sponsors: City of Regina, Saskatchewan Arts Board, Canada Council for the Arts, Sask Culture, and Canadian Heritage
