Hi, I’m Andrew Booth. I’m a classically-trained guitarist, songwriter, composer and music teacher. I write, record and self-produce my unique, genre-escaping brand of instrumental music from my home studio in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. My music is an eclectic mix of distantly-related styles blended into a sonic soup that is equal parts tasty and difficult to define.
My compositional process is formally guided by the foundational knowledge I gained while completing my Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Saskatchewan but has been truly honed during my work as the lead guitarist and songwriter for the progressive metal band Retrofuturist. Through Retrofuturist I’ve had the opportunity to work with a variety of heavy music giants: Grammy-nominated producer Taylor Larson; prolific Periphery vocalist, Spencer Sotelo and Tesseract’s guitarist and production wizard, Acle Kahney. These formative recording experiences helped shape the raw information I gathered during my degree and form it into my unique musical perspective.
During the early months of the pandemic in 2020 I was accepted to the University of Toronto to complete a Master of Music in classical guitar performance. At that time I began to realize my true passion was in creating original music, not performing pre-composed music. I decided to spend the two years I would have used on that degree further developing my songwriting skills and teaching myself the basics of music production. The results of those two years of focussed work can now be heard as the first songs I’ll be releasing as a solo artist, beginning with ‘Thrash Panda’ on August 11th, 2023.Back
