Description

Jim Galloway, Singer/Songwriter, Producer, and Artist Development

CBS recording artist Jim Galloway aka “Jimmy G” is certainly no stranger to the center stage. His abilities in singing, songwriting and as a show-stopping front man caught the eye of CBS Records. This landed his band White Heat a record deal in 1990 and they recorded "We Never Heard of you Either." The album was recorded in New York City and MetalWorks Studio in Toronto with music producer great Mark Berry. Mark also produced Duran Duran, Cool and the Gang and David Bowie. The album went on to sell more than 130,000 albums in Canada and worldwide and to this day is used in commercials and played on the radio.

The singles "Rollin' With the Thunder," "Crazy For You" and "Listen Closely Now" all charted as Top 20 hits on the Canadian Billboard Charts. This adventure took the band across Canada, into the U.S and video world! Their videos were featured on MuchMusic TV across North America!

Throughout his career, Jim has recorded, written, and produced music with several rock and roll heavyweights such as Gil Moore from Triumph, Steve Webster from Billy Idol, Peter Fredette with Kim Mitchell and Jocelyn Brown from Steve Winwood.

The passion and showmanship that brought him into the music industry stayed with him through the years and Jim couldn't be held back. He passes on this passion for music to many aspiring guitarists and guitar students. He currently performs as a solo artist, plays with the jazz trio 2 Sharps and a Flat and is the front man for the Saskatchewan-based “this band has way to much fun - "Jimmy G And The Cable Guys."  He continues to write, record, perform and master the art of guitar playing. Jim loves sharing his passion for music with other musicians and anyone else who is interested, especially his audiences!

Jim is proud to be releasing and performing his new album this fall: "These Are The Good Times."

JIM GALLOWAY - EP FLY AWAY

Jim Galloway’s follow up EP “Fly Away” once again highlights this Saskatchewan artist’s astonishingly smooth songwriting, world class musicianship, and brilliant production abilities.

“Fly Away” sends the listener back in time with a hint of vintage undertones you might find in the early days of the Doobie Brothers or the Eagles, all while seamlessly giving the music a modern twist that is nothing short of cutting edge. “Fly Away” was recorded and produced at Jim’s home studio and mixed and mastered by Allen Hunnie Audio out of Winnipeg Manitoba. This EP is definitely worth a listen!

Toronto Cash Box Music Magazine Jim Galloway "Good Times" Review by Sandy Graham

    February 6, 2015

Jim Galloway aka ‘Jimmy G’ is certainly no stranger to the concert stage or recording industry. It was this incredible ability of songwriting, performing and front man for the CBS Record deal in 1990 for The White Heat ‘we never heard of you either’ album went on to sell more than 130,000 units in Canada and worldwide.

From the first opening track, ‘Drown in the River of Doubt’ this engaging singer/songwriter had me hooked. Reminiscent of Jesse Colin Young, JD Souther and American Beauty Grateful Dead tunes, it is hard to believe this is a Canadian lad, offering up a bit of the South and a bit of rock ‘n’ roll.

‘Sun’ is a refreshingly clean track, that shows the talent of this singer’s voice and offers up wonderfully optimistic lyrics; then ‘These Are the Good Times’ gets funky in a John Martyn kinda way, once again focusing on the great lyrics and solid production you can’t help but smile.’Morning Rain’ sounds like early Boz Scaggs with a really full rock production showing how versatile this artist is; ‘Say Goodbye’ starts off with acoustic guitar and the haunting vocals with a saddened end to summertime or love lost.

‘Leavin’ In September’ shows the influence of rock with Jim Galloway excelling in strong vocals, while ‘Where Do We Go From Here’ asks the eternal question when love hits the rocky road and you have to decide where to to go from here, tasty piano parts and sweet harmonies make this song soar in production.

The closing track ‘Hilly Billy’ brings you back to the beginning of this musical offering, with an instrumental closer that leaves you wanting more of Jim Galloway.

If you are a music fan who love The Eagles, Poco, Souther-Hillman-Furay and just great songs that will bring you back to just great music – get a copy of Jim Galloway’s Good Times.

It belongs in your music library.

An uptown sound from small town Saskatchewan

Jim Galloway – These are the Good Times

    By Brian Bowman

If you were rockin’ in 1990, you may recall the White Heat album: “We Never Heard of you Either”. The album sold more than 130,000 copies and several of its singles stayed high on the charts for a long time. Jim Galloway, aka Jimmy G, was the lead guitarist/vocalist.

“I played professionally through the 1980s and did a lot of night clubbing in western Canada for a number of years.”

The band he played with was a Regina based band called Hypno Go Go. The name changed to White Heat when the band landed a record deal with CBS, and produced the album mentioned earlier.

“It’s on some of the nostalgic European charts and some of the videos get some play on YouTube,” said Galloway,  “I think to this day I’ve seen about seven dollars and eighty cents from all the royalties,” he laughed.

Galloway was born and raised in Oxbow, and these days, that’s where he is. “There has been quite a hiatus for a number of years,” said Galloway, referring to his days as a rocker. The curly locks are gone, and the music has changed – less rock, more jazz/folk with lyrics that provoke some thought.

Currently, Galloway tours with his solo act, performs with Jimmy G and the Cable Guys and also in a Gypsy Jazz trio, 2 Sharps and a Flat , which swings in the style of people like Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt. Plus, he writes, composes, and sings. He plays acoustic, too, tours that way, and has just released an eight track solo cd of his own songs: “These are the Good Times”. His wife, Shirley, backs him on the album with violin. And, if you compare two of the tracks: “Hilly Billy” with “Drown in a River of Doubt” you’ll see how his tunes evolve.

“Hilly Billy is actually Drown in a River of Doubt”, said Galloway. He was noodling with an acoustic guitar. His wife joined in with some plucking on the violin and they recorded it. That became the foundation for both tunes – “Hilly Billy” sort of stays on the front porch; “Drown in a River of Doubt” is more evolved, a little more downtown. All in all, you’ll hear numerous musical influences in the cd because Galloway is an experienced player whose skill comfortably covers many styles and genres. But there’s no rip-off riffs on it – it’s all Jim.

The tunes on this album are, as the title indicates, an observation and celebration of the good things life has to offer. Small town Saskatchewan is a good place to find those things. And this album puts an uptown polish on those observations.
