Description

Most people hearing Cathleen sing for the first time would be forgiven if they believed that she has always been singing. With early childhood memories of a father who played guitar and a mother who sang at family parties, she comes by her love of music naturally. A self-taught singer, her voice is a contrast of vulnerability and sheer force with a soulful depth stretching beyond her short time as a performer. Her second full length CD, “Brilliant Bright”, recorded with the support of a project venture Saskatchewan Arts Board grant and released in the spring of 2012, offers up 11 self-penned original songs written of love and loss, rolling grey prairie skies and redemption. Featuring an eclectic mix of folk, alt country and soul rock-roots, “Brilliant Bright” has seen college radio support across Canada. Reaching Number 9 on Calgary’s CJSW Folk Charts in October of 2012, it was included in Edmonton’s CKUA Top Thirty HotBox List and reached Number 4 on Kamloops CFBX Folk/Roots Charts in January 2013. Stumbling upon a music path later in life than most artists and with a hardworking DIY ethic from day one, this emerging Canadian singer/songwriter is a raw and genuine talent. She performs as a solo artist with simple and sparse guitar, as well as performing as a soul rock-roots duo. Born and raised in Winnipeg, she has called Saskatchewan home for the past 10 years.
