"The Basics of (Live) Sound"

The Artesian on 13th - 2627 13th Ave, Regina SK
Saturday, June 13th, 2015
9:00am - 4:00pm

Workshop lead by Rob Zaleschuck of GV Audio.

OSAC and SaskMusic present a jointly sponsored workshop on the basics of live sound. OSAC has been presenting this type of workshop in rural communities with arts presenters for three years, and found that the musicians hired to perform at these workshops often seemed to have as many questions as the live sound questions answered - from how to build a stage plot, to how to adjust a monitor mix in a way your monitor tech will understand, to how to communicate with the local presenter on your shows.

If live performances are/will be a large focus for you this summer, learn how to do a proper setup and soundcheck! Festival and showcase situations require a quick turnover between bands - and knowing how to figure out what you need, and communicate that to the sound techs will help you sound your very best, and save frustration on everyone's end.

This hands-on demonstration will help you with what you need to know to take your shows up a notch. As part of the workshop, two artists will work through a show from full load in and sound check to a performance, with an opportunity to try different microphones and sound systems.

Geared to many levels of artist, especially those frustrated with getting their monitor mix right, who don't currently have a 'stage plot', who will be doing festivals this summer, are applying for OSAC-type showcases, want to feel more confident going into a new room, and/or are setting up their own sound for shows!

Skip Taylor, Performing Arts Coordinator at OSAC, says, "We have developed a good working relationship with SaskMusic over the years, and it is important to our members to have high-quality professional Saskatchewan performers available to book for their performing arts seasons. This partnership gives us the opportunity to share knowledge on live sound with SaskMusic members and also give our members an opportunity to develop their abilities."

Rebecca Windjack, Program & Education Coordinator for SaskMusic, notes,  "We're excited to partner with OSAC to present this very hands-on workshop. Taking the time to address proper stage etiquette while 'on the job' is a valuable and necessary skill that can often be overlooked. This will be a great opportunity for the artists and musicians who attend, allowing them to present themselves more professionally, and to alleviate frustrations in the set-up and sound check processes."
