How much is enough? Ask Saskatchewan born rapper Cquel that question and his answer is simple - there's never enough. That's also the title of the new record Cquel will release Friday, February 26th. In October 2014 Cquel released an EP produced by Toronto hip-hop veteran Relic. 'Never Enough' is the follow-up to that project, and this time production comes from a collective of Saskatchewan producers. Most notably it contains production, and was recorded and mixed in it's entirity, by one of Canada's most prolific producers- Factor Chandelier.
Cquel says 'Never Enough' describes a feeling, one that he has felt in a variety of situations. Such as when his confidence has been at it's peak, and he wouldn't settle for his accomplishments, but wanted more; and also in his most vulnerable moments when anything he did felt like it was never enough. The collection of songs touches on a variety of Cquel's experiences with love, substance abuse, and mental illness; and also contains tracks for hip-hop purists that put his lyrical bravado as an MC on display.
The 7 song EP takes the listener on an emotional roller coaster throughout. It features additional vocals from the familiar voices of Rel McCoy and Kirby Dominant, and mastering duties come courtesy of Vancouver's Jamie Kuse, so you know each song received quality treatment. As a bonus, when listeners purchase 'Never Enough' on CD or buy their digital version on bandcamp, Cquel will reward them with 10 new tracks that are exclusively downloadable for people that buy one of those formats. He will send out one song per month from late March 2016 to December 2016. 5 will be remixes from 'Never Enough' and 5 will be new music recorded at Chandelier Studios, featuring a number of artists within Cquel's circle.
